Field Notes

A portable publishing system for shipping essays, experiments, and studio updates without turning the act of writing into a production task.

Brief

Most personal sites collapse under the weight of their own maintenance. I wanted a system that made publishing feel inviting, not administrative.

Approach

I treated content as source code. Collections provide structure, Markdown keeps authorship light, and the page templates handle presentation. The result is a workflow where writing happens in plain text while the site still feels considered and polished.

Outcome

The biggest shift was behavioral. Publishing stopped feeling like a special event and started feeling like part of the weekly rhythm.

What I would add next

  • Search across notes and project pages
  • Topic hubs that remix writing and project work together
  • A tiny Worker endpoint for newsletter delivery or guestbook-style replies
